Urban berry farming project at the Silo
PC Fruit vzw, Corda Campus and Tuinvrienden van Banneux are collaborating with a2o on an innovative research project focused on sustainable fruit cultivation. The project is supported by the Droogte Innovatie Fonds (DIF) of the Province of Limburg.
Within this project, the partners are investigating whether three types of fruit can be cultivated in substrate using reused rainwater, as the basis for a future façade system. The focus is on both technical feasibility and practical applicability.
Two test setups were built: one on the roof of De Silo (at height) and one at Corda Campus (at ground level). Over a period of two years, water consumption, yield, and the influence of height and orientation will be monitored.
Within the project, a2o contributes expertise in rainwater reuse and its translation into a practical façade system.
