Boomgaardstraat Maaseik

In the heart of Maaseik, Boomgaardstraat emerges as a project driven by three core ambitions: blending harmoniously with the urban fabric, integrating landscape and greenery into its architecture, and achieving a refined level of detailing that honors the past.

On this unique site, a new chapter in the city’s history unfolds. The project breathes the grandeur of Maasland Renaissance, with its elegant facades, steep roofs, and local materials that embody Maaseik’s essence.

Two volumes, adorned with graceful gabled roofs, engage in dialogue with the neighboring Ursuline Convent. Along Boomgaardstraat, eleven apartments rise across five floors, while five three-story single-family homes nestle along the dike, designed with lower heights to embrace sunlight. The intervening green courtyard offers a generous breathing space, meticulously balanced between sunlight and greenery.

A hidden passage, connecting residents to the public domain, finds new life within this project. This historical passage, protected and accessible, restores a piece of the past within a modern context.

Boomgaardstraat embraces nature with a garden that acts as a green hill, bridging the gap between the dike and the inner courtyard. This garden, featuring lush vegetation and private terraces, reflects a sustainable future. The park, with its mix of grasses, shrubs, and a central tree, provides a verdant setting for the buildings and their inhabitants.

Minimal hardscaping with open joints allows water to nourish the earth.

The detailed facades, crafted from brick and featuring wooden windows, speak a clear language, with subtle nods to the past. Relief in the brickwork creates a play of light and shadow, while large windows flood the interiors with daylight, offering expansive views and private terraces. Dormer windows and subtle roof cutouts enhance the architectural form.

The materials, light and natural, create a soft architecture that blends seamlessly with the city. Grevenhof stands as a promise of refinement and nature, a poetic addition to the vibrant city of Maaseik.
