Competition design for PXL Building B.
Designed as a future-proof living environment, PXL Building B is upgraded with a new modular skin, allowing for flexible infills. The design is a response to the large-scale context of the Singel and the campus, presenting a bold architecture that impresses both up close and from a distance. Its rhythmic façade with shading ribs, orchestrates a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, while the windows create a connection between the interior and exterior.
Engaging in a dialogue with its surroundings, the building features open and inviting public areas that fold outwards like an origami. Innovation and ecology are combined with a focus on sustainability, using natural materials such as wood and clay pigments to create a healthy and aesthetically pleasing environment.
